Auto Race Car Driver. Born in Lafayette, Indiana, he was most noted for being one of the very few to win the Indianapolis 500 his first time of being in the race. On May 30, 1927, in the annual Indianapolis 500 Race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Indiana, Souders started in the 22nd position as a race rookie. He led for the last 51 laps of the race and won the Indy Championship.
