DORRIS CROSS BRADLEY Born 1921 Mineral Wells, Texas. Houston resident since 1953. Graduated SMU Phi Beta Kappa 1950; and University of Houston with a masters in education 1968. Served in WWII as Marine Corps officer in Joint Chief's office at Pentagon. Taught at Memorial Elementary and Black Middle School for many years. Through frugal living, she put three grateful children through college and traveled the world. A generous, caring neighbor who helped create an enduring community on her street. Like her mother before her, she taught her children to read the newspaper and be informed, active citizens. Instigated scholarship program for economically disadvantaged high school students. Served in numerous organizations including food pantries, schools, her civic club, the DAR, her voting precinct, and local Bible studies. Member of St. Luke's United Methodist and Bethany United Methodist churches. Survived by her beloved daughters Ann Bradley Adams, Claire Bradley Chan and Betty Cross Bradley; six treasured grandchildren, John, Bryan and Jennifer Adams; Sarah-Marie, Katelyn and Madison Chan; one great-grandson, Samuel Adams. Service and burial in Lone Camp, Texas.
