MRS. M. V. ADAMS
With deep regret The Herald-Patriot chronicles the passing away of one of Chariton's most respected ladies, Mrs. M. V. Adams, which occured at the family home on Friday at noon, Feb. 11, 1921, at the age of 81 years, 7 months and 3 days. She had been in failing health for some time. Her last illness was of a few weeks duration and was due to an attack of pneumonia.
Largely attended funeral services, conducted by Rev. J. W. Goodsell, were held at the M. E. church in Chariton on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery.
Zilpha Ann Bagley was born in Muskingum county, Ohio, July 8, 1839. She was married there to M. V. Adams on Nov. 2, 1865. For over 55 years this couple have lived happily together. Five years ago they celebrated their 50th golden wedding anniversary.
Nine children came to bless this home. They are Mrs. Marietta Willits, of Chariton; Omer E., of Kansas City, Kansas; Mrs. Lulu Blanche Gookin, of Russell, Iowa; Dr. Geo. C., of St. Louis, Mo., who died Dec. 16, 1918; Mrs. Irma Maude Goltry, of Oskaloosa, Iowa; T. Bruce, of Cynwyd, Pa.; Mrs. Arminta B. Plotts, of Omaha, Nebr.; a little boy who died in infancy and Miss Carrie E. of Chariton.
There are 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Two sisters survive her: Mrs. Geo. E. Shoemaker, of Zanesville, Ohio and Mrs. Martha Vernon of Kansas. Mr. Adams, the life-long companion and husband, is left to mourn her loss.
After leaving the childhood home the family moved to Story County, Iowa in 1869, where they lived for 5 years. From there they moved to Lucas county and located on a farm south of Russell. Here they resided until 1905 when they moved to their present home in Chariton. In this city she became greatly endeared to her friends and neighbors. They all admired her for the many noble qualities in her life.
She was converted in early childhood and united with the M. E. church at Adamsville, Ohio. She has always been a faithful member of the church and lived a noble christian life. Her membership had been in the M. E. church in Chariton for many years. Her demise will be deplored by a host of friends, who will extend sincere sympathy to the aged companion and children who remain.
