John was a well known and respected citizen of the area and passed away at his home in Millgrove (in the Town of Portville, NY) at age 78 after a short illness. He came to Portville many years ago from Pennsylvania. He was a member ot the G.A.R. H.W. Wessell Post. At the time of his death he was survived by his wife(name not stated), two daughters, Mrs. James Barnes of Portville, NY and Mrs Wright of West Virginia along with a son who lived in WV(nome not given). The funeral was held at his home on March 12, 1907.
