"Thus to relieve the wretched was his pride, And even his failings leaned to virtue's side; But in his duty prompt at every call, He watched and wept, he prayed and felt, for all. And, as a bird each fond endearment tries To tempt its new-fledged offspring to the skies, He tried each art, reproved each dull delay, Allured to brighter worlds, and led the way. Beside the bed where parting life was laid, And sorrow, guilt, and pain by turns dismayed, The reverend champion stood. At his control, Despair and anguish fled the struggling soul; Comfort came down the trembling wretch to raise, And his last faltering accents whispered praise." ... from Oliver Goldsmith - "The Deserted Village" (1770) ... Sweet dreams.

For the blue eyed beauty. Corrine did not kill herself, nor did she leap into the river. She had been ill for several weeks, as were other members of her household. She died in her home, surrounded by her family. She died from an illness, not suicide. There are no records of her having been engaged nor were there any mentions of any sort of planning of a wedding in her mother's diary. Corinne was 30 years old and about 4 months.

Shadows of the night, falling silently, Echo of the pastócalling you to me. Haunting memory, veiled in misty glow, Phantom melody, playing soft, and low. In this world that we know now Life is here, then gone. But somewhere in the afterglow, Love lives on and on. Dreams of long ago meet in rendezvous, Shadows of the nightócalling me to you. Rest in peace, Corinne.

I have thought of her grave often after seeing it only once. As I began to take an extreme close-up, I felt that the statue was really looking at me. I have not forgotten the feeling.I hope that you were blessed in knowing God and that you are with him.
