He graduated from Muncy High School in 1911 and went on to graduate from Drexel Institute in Philadelphia, Pa. in 1916. He enlisted on 19 June 1917 and was commissioned a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Service in March 1918 and attached to the 1st Squadron of the RAF. On 24 August 1918 he left Fienvillers Aerodrome and his plane was last seen in the vicinity of Bapaume, France.
