Her brother James came to Canada with the British army about 1836 and was awarded 100 acres in Spencerville, Ontario, for his service.
After her father Daniel's 1847 death, her brother John Carmichael immigrated with wife Mary Ann Price and the first four of their 10 children. They settled in Spencerville.
Mary Ann, still in Ireland, married farmer Richard Anderson where their 11 children were born. About 1869 the family sailed to join the Carmichaels, settling in Matilda, Dundas County.
