Applewhite Rites Held Friday

Services for Mrs. Pearl Arnold Applewhite, a resident of Vaiden for many years who died Thursday, October 22, at the Grenada Hospital were held at the family residence Friday, October 23, at 2 p. m., the Rev. E. C. Driskell of Winona and the Rev. A. N. Gore, Jr, of Vaiden officiated. Burial was in the Vaiden Cemetery under the direction of McGahey and Lott Funeral Home of Winona.

Mrs. Applewhite who was 75 was married to Tom I. Applewhite Sept. 17, 1899. Mr. Applewhite died October 28, 1948. She was born in Webster County, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. F. N. Arnold. She was a member of the Vaiden Methodist Church. Mrs. Applewhite was always interested in the news of the day, she kept abreast of the changing times, yet her clear memory recalled facts, names, and dates of the past for younger minds.

She leaves a daughter-in-law Mrs. Mattie Applewhite, one granddaughter, Lucertia Applewhite of Vaiden, a grandson, Tom Applewhite of St. Louis, Mo., a daughter, Mrs. Mary Womble of Clarksdale, one sister, Mrs. Rosa Honea of Cleburne, Texas, and two brothers, Dr. Herbert Arnold of Meridian and T. L. Arnold of El Paso, Texas.

Pallbearers were John Fisher, Jr., Guy Collins, Jr., V. F. Anderson, James Fullilove, C. U. Canon and W. L. Randle.

Among those attending the funeral of Mrs. Applewhite were, Mrs. Mary Womble, Clarksdale, Mrs. Karma Griffin, Memphis, Tom Applewhite, St. Louis, Mo. Mrs. Applewhite and Mrs. M. C. Bilhngsley, Winona, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Lucas, Jackson, Mrs. P. E. Smith and Miss Katherine Smith, Hattiesburg, Dr. Herbert Arnold, Meridian, Mrs. Brownie Winters, Ruleville, Miss Nira Harris, Yazoo City, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Collins, Jr., Tutwiler.
