Born in La Prairie, Canada, near Montreal, in 1844, Mr. Kennedy came to O'Fallon, with his parents when he was a boy. At the age of 18 he enlisted in Co. I of the 117th IL Vol. Infantryand later in the 3rd U.S. Heavy Artillery. He was first a drummer and was promoted to First Lieutenant in his regiment before the close of the war.

During President Harrison's term he was Postmaster at Collinsville, and later Fire Chief and cashier.

He was survived by his children: William, Harry, Albert, Thomas, and daughter Mrs. George Nichols.
