HEART ATTACK IS FATAL TO M. A. BUTCHER
Funeral for Prominent Resident to be Thursday
Marion Alfred Butcher, age 56, veteran barber and a lifelong resident of this county, died at 1:30 AM today at his home at 711 East 10th Street from a heart attack. He had been in ill health for the past two or three years suffering from heart disease. This morning at one o'clock he became ill and his physician was summoned. Mr. Butcher lived only 30 minutes after being stricken and died while seated in a rocking chair.
He was born in this county, the son of the late Perry O. and Rhoda Jacobs Butcher, and spent his entire life in this county and city. For many years he operated a barber shop and was an influential member of the Barbers' Union. He was a man who made friendships readily and is mourned by a large circle of friends. For many years Mr. Butcher took an active part in the work of the Monroe County Poultry Association and helped to build up the organization and arouse interest in the raising of fine poultry. He had been compelled by ill health to abandon these activities recently. He was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors are the widow, Mrs. Emma Butcher; two daughters, Miss Mabel Butcher, who is connected with the local office of the Public Service Company, and Mrs. Don Skirvin of this city; and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Cawley of this city and Mrs. M. S. Shaw of Cloverdale.
Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at two o'clock from the First Christian Church and will be in charge of the Rev. W. E. Moore. Interment will be in Rose Hill.

Marion A. Butcher Enters Race For Sheriff
Marion A. Butcher, the well known barber who owns and manages the Kirkwood Barber shop on east 5th street, announces his candidacy for the nomination for sheriff on the Republican ticket, subject to the May primary. This is Mr. Butchers first race in politics. He is a native of Monroe county, was born and raised on a farm five miles southeast of Bloomington until twenty-one years of age. At this time he engaged in the barber business and ahs continued in the same business ever since, in which he has been very successful. He says that he has had thirty years of dealing with the public and feels sure he is competent of the office. He says if elected he would give his entire time to the work, and would run the office as economically as he would his own business, and with as little expense to the county as possible.
He is a member of the First Christian church and has many friends in the city and county who have urged him for some time to get into the race.
