Duane grew up in Pennsylvania and worked in Glass factory in Glassport, Pa. with his dad and older brother and as a postman and steel worker in McKeesport, Pa. later - also was a refrigerator repairman in Braddock, Pa. - he moved to Texas at age 37 and worked as a Pipe Inspector in the Steel Mills. He was Superintendent of the Lone Star Steel Company Pipe Finishing Mill in the 1950's. He had diabetes and died at age 84. He has four grand children - John Patrick, Jamie Patricia, Julie Paige, and Jill Patrice. He married Anna May Cochran on July 15, 1936 - they had one son Rod William Carnahan. Duane was a very thrifty Irishman with his money and left his widow with a nice nest egg.
