Mr. McKeithen was a well-known planter and cattle raiser in Caldwell parish and had been a life-time resident of Grayson.
He served many years as mayor of the village of Grayson and also served a term on the Caldwell parish school board.
Services were held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Grayson Methodist church with the Rev. S. P. Emanuel, pastor in charge, assisted by the Rev. J. W. Lee, former pastor of the Grayson church, and other ministers who were friends of Mr. McKeithen.
Interment followed in the Welcome Home cemetery at Grayson under the direction of the Riser Funeral Home of Columbia.
Mr. McKeithen was an uncle of State Representative John J. McKeithen, who is a candidate for lieutenant-governor.
Nephews served as pallbearers, in addition to Representative John J. McKeithen, were Dr. A. E. McKeithen of Hodge, Judson McKeithen of Grayson and Rev. J. P. McKeithen of Cotton Valley.
Mr. McKeithen is survived by one son, Lamar McKeithen of Grayson, one daughter, Mrs. Lora Belle Robinson of Grayson who is with the Caldwell parish school board as lunchroom supervisor; a foster daughter, Mrs. Pinky Brown Murphy of Farmerville; two sisters, Mrs. Allen Wells of Grayson, and Mrs. Evelyn Holmes of Columbia; two brothers, W. O. McKeithen of Grayson and J. J. McKeithen of Columbia Heights, two granddaughters, one grandson and a number of nieces and nephew.
His wife, who was a sister of Mrs. Sue Shelton of this city, preceded him in death a little over a year ago.
