Bernard "Bernie" J. Cryer, 75, of North Aurora, formerly of Geneva, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000 at Rosewood in St. Charles. He was born May 10, 1925 in Kankakee, the son of the late Art and Goldie Cryer.
    For over 40 years, Bernie owned and operated the Fox Valley Snack Shop in Aurora and the Fox Valley Restaurant in Geneva. He was united in marriage to the former Dolly McDowell on April 17, 1969. Bernie was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Navy. He was a fifty year member of the Geneva American Legion Post #75 and was a past president and 25 year member of the Geneva Rotary Club.
    He is survived by his wife, Dolly; their children, Jim (Margo) LeFaver of North Aurora, Mary Maxson of Conover, Wis., Terry (Paula) Cryer of Sycamore, Pam Crosby of Sebring, Fla., Peggy (Mark) Fodge of Maple Park, Linda (Jeff) Chancy of St. Charles, B.J. Cryer of Sandwich, Patty (Dick) Wright of Idaho; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Ed (Gloria) Cryer of Texas.
    He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Howard; and a brother, Don.
    Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2000 from St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 2900 E. Main St., St. Charles, Fr. Edward Seisser will officiate. Burial will be in River Hills Memorial Park Cemetery, Batavia.
    Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m., Tuesday at the Yurs Wittenberg Funeral Home, 1771 W. State St., Geneva, where prayer services will be at 7:30 p.m.
    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 221 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL. 60635.
