One of the greatest oversights of the Baseball Hall of Fame is that Gil Hodges should have been inducted long ago.He did it as a player and he did it as a manager. Time to wake up Hall of Fame committee.....This fine man has earned his place among the immortals.

Mr. Hodges, I remember the day you died although I was very young. Started out a Mets fan thanks to my Dad. Your death was unexpected and very sad. Rest in peace, sir.

On this date 64 years ago -- Aug. 31, 1950 -- Gil Hodges went 5 for 6, including four homers and a single, scored five runs and drove in nine to power the Brooklyn Dodgers to a 19-3 rout of the Boston Braves at Ebbets Field.
