Charles was married twice. His first wife was Almira E Jackson whom he married on 4 Sep 1855. Daughter of Edmund W Jackson & Lucinda Jordon, she died before 1860. They were the parents of 2 daughters, Alice E & Almire Emma Curtis.

His 2nd wife was Mary Amanda Bass whom he married on 29 Jan 1863. They were the parents of Bessie Curtis Maddox, Myrtle Estelle Curtis Paulson, Charles Curtis, James William Curtis and Victor Ray Curtis.

Mary applied for a CSA Widows Pension from Pike Co GA. She gave her birth date as 14 Feb 1844 and stated she married Charles on 29 Jan 1863. He enlisted in May 1861 and served with Co. A of the 13th GA Vols. He was severely wounded at the battle of Malvern Hill, Va. His arm was broken and his lung pierced. He suffered a spinal column injury in that battle also. After he was sent home , he was shot in the back of his head by Sherman's army about the 19th March 1865. He died in Pike county on 3 Jan 1879.
