Mildred Earlene Hunt McCowan was born on November 1, 1917 to the late George Thomas and Esther Eleanor Hunt. She grew up in Capron, Virginia and was educated in Southampton County Schools.

Mildred, moved to New York and started working for the Department of Veterans Affairs. It was there where she spent most of her youth years and lots of time with her brother Carl's children. After leading a golden life in New York, she retired and relocated back to Virginia near her siblings.

Mildred was a long time member of the First Baptist Church, in Portsmouth, Va. She was also an active participant in the Missionary Circle, the Thrifty Ten, the Golden Age, and the Pastor's Aide Club.

Mildred was the oldest of eight children. All her siblings preceded her death, George Alton Hunt, Edward Winfield Hunt, Gracie L. Love, Hugh L. Hunt, Ercell A. Spurlock, Carl Mitchell Hunt and Annie Mae Rawls.

AUNT BIG SIS was a very SPECIAL aunt. Her legacy lives on through her first generation nephews and neices, Reginald Darden, Anita R Barber, Sherri Lynn Hunt, Dana Hunt Ali, Darlene Garcia, Micheal LaMont Hunt, Amos H. Rawls, Jr., Ronnie L. Rawls, Saundra H. Johnson, Brenda Hunt-Mills, Denise Pugh, Millicent Harding, Edward Hunt Jr., Donovan Hunt, Dion Hunt, Duana Hunt-Branch, Alfreda Wright Taylor, Lawrence A. Owes, Lynn Hunt, Leslie H. Adams, Stephen Hunt and James Roger Hunt.

Mildred also leaves one sister-in-law, Hattie Mae Hunt (Carl's widow) and several generations of other nephews, neices and cousins.
