From the Clarks Hill News March 4, 1904 there were 9 obits for Mr. Shaffer. This is one of them. The funeral of Harry S. Shaffer, editor of the Clarks Hill Hews was conducted from the Christian Church in Clarks Hill yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Hr. Shaffer was a popular man in Lauramie township and the last tribute to his memory was paid by a large number of his friends. M. Shaffer died on Friday night at 9:30 p.m. at his home from Brights Disease. He was born in Lafayette and was 52 years of age. He leaves a widow and five children. The early part of his life was spent in theaching school in Clarks Hill. He then conducted the Clarks Hill News. He took an active part in politics and was an enemy to the liquor traffic and did more than any other man in Lauramie Twp., to drive the saloons from Stockwell and Clarks Hill. He was married three times his first wife was Miss Elva Lucas June 7, 1878 when she died he married Mattie A. Thompson who died leaving five children. Then was married to Angeline Millikan. He began teaching school at the age of 16 and for 26 years followed that vocation and became principle to Clarks Hill and Colfax High schools. He then took up publication of the News.
