Officer Joseph D. Callahan, DSN 1802, was commissioned as a Police Officer on 04/04/1980. Upon completion of the academy he was assigned to the following districts and specialized units during his career. They are the 6Th, 2Nd, Mobile Reserve Unit, Crimes Against Property Division, Criminal Justice Liaison, Special Assignments Division, Circuit Attorney's Office, and finally the 3Rd District. When he retired on 01/12/2004 he had 23 years, 9 months and 8 days of service to the Saint Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Cherished husband of Marilyn A. Callahan (nee Zwilling); loving father of Caroline M. Callahan; beloved son of the late George H. and Marie (nee Klekamp) Callahan. Joe is survived by his sisters: Sally Callahan, Eileen (Jon) Gardner, Nancy (Rob) Libera and Dorothy Biondo and his brothers Dan (Vicky) Callahan and John (Jan) Callahan. Joe was preceded in death by his sisters: Kate Spavale, Sue Bartley, Peggy Mayfield and his brothers: Baby Thomas , Jim and Thomas Francis Callahan. Dear son-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Joe was a retired veteran of the Metropolitan St. Louis Police Department, a Member of the St. Louis Police Association and Emerald Society.

.Services:Funeral Service from COLONIAL MORTUARY HOFFMEISTER-KRIEGSHAUSER FUNERAL DIRECTORS, 6464 Chippewa at Watson, on Friday, September 26, 2008 9:15 a.m. to St. Richard's Catholic Church with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.

The interment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Please visit www.mem.com. Visitation at Colonial Mortuary Thursday 4-8 p.m.
