His father first homesteaded in Rutledge, Oregon, but returned to the east. Later the family came and settled just north of Shaniko, Oregon.
After Oscar married he and his wife Mary first lived near Kent, , Oregon where their first child was born. Her name was Doris and she died in the 1918-1919 flu epidemic.
When he initially moved to Hood River he raised foxes for their pelts. It was here that his son Leland was born. When Leland was a child he hiked with a group of Boy Scouts up to the Mosier Tunnel. A landslide occurred while there and Leland was killed, by falling rock. The Adam's also had another son named Connie.
