CHARLES E. ABELL, age 72, of Salem, Oregon, passed September16, 2000. Born in Houston, Texas on September 13, 1928. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. He graduated from St. Thomas High School and attended the University of Houston and the University of Texas, all in Texas. He married Shirley Crane on December 26, 1973. He was a real estate appraiser in Houston and moved to Salem, Oregon in October 1999. He attended St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salem, Oregon. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors: wife Shirley Abell of Houston, Texas; daughters: Catherine Carlson, Elise Abell, and Leslie Chrowl, all of Salem, Oregon; step-daughter Denise Valls of Houston, Texas; son David Abell of Kalaheo, Hawaii; sister, Virginia Gregory of Centerville, Iowa; brother Armand Abell of Houston, Texas; and 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Jeanmarie Abell. Services 1:30 PM, Tuesday, October 3, 2000, Memorial Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salem, Oregon. Interment City View Cemetery. Final arrangements entrusted to City View Funeral Home, Salem, Oregon (503) 363-8652.
