Dolores M. (Connell) Hughes, 71, passed away Monday, Jan. 4 (2010) at home surrounded by her family.
She was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Nara Visa, N. M., the daughter of Christopher and Virgie Connell. Dolores graduated from Alpena High School in 1957. She married Robert J. Hughes in Alpena on August 28, 1969. She graduated from Sparks Medical Center in Fort Smith as an RN and retired from Lee's Summit Hospital in Missouri.
Dolores and Robert belonged to the Volkswalk Club and completed Volkwalks in over 35 states. She enjoyed quilting, square dancing, hiking, gardening and reading.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Hughes of Topeka, Kan.; daughters, Christy and husband, Barry McMurphy of Topeka, Kan. and Deborah and husband, Chuck Mitchell of Northville, Minn.; sons, Roy and wife, Leslie Walker of John Day, Ore. and Robert and wife, Jamie Hughes of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Nathan, Melissa, Beth Ann, Angela, Bob, Trenton and Mead; and sisters, Lorene and husband, Tom Megee of Little Rock and Virginia and husband, Jack Cornett of Mountain Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers, Jerry, Donald and Virgil Connell.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11, at Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church in Topeka, Kan. Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 11 at the church. Graveside memorial service will be at Auman Cemetery in Alpena at a later date.
