From the "Schell City News" Vernon County, Missouri, Thursday, February 21, 1924;

Shelby Franklin Hicks was born in Wayne County, Kentucky July 16, 1846. Died February 13, 1924. He was 77 years 6 months 27 days old. He was married to Miss Oleva Muse, Feb. 6, 1867 who preceded him to the grave 7 years ago.
To this union were born eleven children three of whom preceded them to the grave. He is survived by the following living children, Mrs. Nancy Clopton, St. Louis, Mo., Frank and Ben Hicks of Schell City, Mo., Mrs. R. F. Berry, Long Beach, California, Arthur Hicks, Kansas City, Mrs. G. W. Galegar, Gypsem, Kansas, Mrs. Mollie Bird, Brawley, California, Mrs. Maggie Reed of San Diego, California. Arthur Hicks and Mrs. Galegar attended the funeral which was held at the home of J. F. Hicks Feb. 14, 1924 and remains laid to rest in Greenlawn Cemetery. Services conducted by Rev. Wade Johnson.
