Mrs. James M. Pounders, age 76, passed away in a hospital in Houston last Friday, April 21, following a long illness. The body, in charge of Phillips and Luckey, was brought to the funeral home here where final rites were held in the chapel at 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Rev. H.E. Crone of Temple officiated, assisted by Rev. R.A. Brigham of the First Christian church here. Burial was made in the Wilson cemetery at Tanglewood. The pallbearers were James Beard, J.T. Fretwell, Forrest Lee Pounders, Bill Green, Wesley Dee Corder, Levi Fretwell. Mary Susan Cain was born in Belgreen, Alabama, on September 30, 1873, and was married to James Madison Pounders on November 20, 1887. The couple were the parents of twelve children. Mr. and Mrs. Pounders came to Texas from Alabama in 1896 and made their home in Lee and Milam counties for thirty-eight years. Mrs. Pounders was a devout member of the First Christian church for long years. She is survived by the following ten children: Mrs. W.F. Beard, Tanglewood; Mrs. J.E. Dodson, Brownsville; J.L. Pounders, Caldwell; W.O. Pounders, Lexington; Mrs. W.E. Corder, Rockdale; Mrs. L.O. Fretwell, Austin; Jake E. Pounders, Rockdale; Mrs. A.S. Sanders, Houston; Mrs. H.D. Spivey, Thermal, California; Fred Pounders, Rockdale. There are 28 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The husband preceded his wife in death, as did an infant and a daughter, Miss Myrtle Pounders. Rockdale Reporter
