Ephraim M. Tilton was born 28 Feb 1828 near Johnsonville, Williamsburg District, South Carolina, a son of William Tilton of Goldsboro, Wayne County, North Carolina, and Bethany Eaddy of South Carolina. Ephraim died 13 Aug 1900 in Winn Parish, Louisiana.

Ephraim was married three times and was a soldier with the CSA at the Siege of Vicksburg.

Ephraim 1st married Sarah Abigail Poston on 06 Feb 1851 in Marion County, South Carolina. She was born 12 Nov 1832 in Marion County, South Carolina and died 06 Sep 1861 in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana, of yellow fever as did five of her six children, only son John survived the epidemic between 1859-1862.

Ephraim 2nd married, I believe her name was Sarah J. Mulky, and they had a child born soon after Ephraim entered the War. Sarah was told Ephraim was seen dead on the battlefield and she acquired another husband and had a child. Following parole, Ephraim arrived home and family discussion supported his wife's re-union.

Ephraim 3rd married Martha Ryals on 13 Aug 1865 at Winnfield, Winn Parish, Louisiana. Their children were:

1 Lucy D. Tilton
2 James D. Tilton
3 Martha Matilda Tilton
4 William Ryals Tilton
5 Susan Ella Tilton
6 Albert Dunn Tilton
7 Lela Francis Tilton
