Memorial services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with Chaplain Merle Smith of Skiff Medical Center in Newton officiating. The body has been cremated.
The family will greet friends immediately following the memorial service with a coffee time in the fellowship room of the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Central Iowa Cyclists or to First United Methodist Church. Memorials may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Edward and Sylvia (Daggett) Swanson, she was born Aug. 19, 1930, in Des Moines. She graduated from North High School in Des Moines and Iowa Methodist School of Nursing. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Central Iowa Cyclists, Newton Tennis Association and the Des Moines Ski Club. She celebrated her 65th birthday while on a bicycle ride with a group of Iowans from Long Beach, Calif., to the White House in Washington, D.C. She was a registered nurse for 40 years and worked for 28 years at Skiff Medical Center.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dick "Red" Hansen of Bloomington, Ill., and Bill and Angela Hansen of Des Moines; two daughters and a son-in-law, Deb Danielson of Lincoln, Neb., and Diane and Larry Plumb of Newton; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Kay Swanson of Kansas City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
