Virginia M. Berends, 85, Topeka, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at a Topeka hospital. She was born February 24, 1923 in Topeka, the daughter of William and Anna Klutke Day.

She was a life-long Topeka resident and was a member of Kansas Avenue United Methodist Church.

Virginia married Jackson A. Berends on July 13, 1940 in Topeka. He preceded her in death on August 29, 1985.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Jack Melvin, a grandson, Brian Patrick Robinson, two sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include her companion, Charles W. Stover of Topeka, two sons, Kenneth and wife, Linda and Bruce and wife, Debbie, of Topeka; two daughters, Patricia Robinson and husband, Ernest and Mary Seaver, of Topeka; nine grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place.

Graveside inurnment services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday in Rochester Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday at Penwell-Gabel Mid Town Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to the Helping Hands Humane Society, 2625 N.W. Rochester Rd., Topeka, KS 66617 or to the Good Samaritan Fund c/o Aldersgate Village, 7220 S.W. Asbury Dr., Topeka, KS 66614.
