Obituary VERDIE MAY SMITH

Verdie May Smith, 86, of Eufaula went to be with her Lord, on Saturday, December 2, 1995, at the McAlester Regional Hospital. Funeral Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 6th, at the Vivian Baptist Church with grandson, Dr. Elbert Smith, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, and Rev. Don Anderson, of Quinton, officiating. Vocalists were grandchildren, Heather Yandell, Michael Gould, and Elbert and Kay Smith. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of the Merritt Funeral Service of Eufaula.

Pallbearers were nephews, James Berry, Johnny Berry, Gary Berry, Ronnie Berry, Donald Berry and Jimmy Dale Berry.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jess and Alice (Henry) Berry; one son, Ireland; two daughters, Barbara and husband, Leon Gould, and Audrey Haskett; one sister, Jesse; six brothers, Norman, Claude, Homer, Frank, Everett and Floyd.

May was born September 29, 1909, in Dustin, Oklahoma, the daughter of Jess and Alice (Henry) Berry. She married Arthur W. Smith on January 5, 1928, at Dustin. May and Arthur lived in Eufaula for the past 35 years. They had eight children: Ireland (deceased) and wife, Bonnie (Ridge) Smith, of Hanna; Eurvin and wife, Alene (Ford) Smith, of Verdigris, OK; Barbara (Deceased) and husband, Leon Gould (deceased); Robert and wife, Kathryne (Martin) Smith, of Eufaula; Richard and wife, Patricia (Davis) Smith, of Oklahoma City; Lillian and husband, Raymond Hale, of Eufaula; Audrey (deceased) and Don Haskett of Ballwin, MO.; Carol Jo and husband, Phillip Yandell, of Eufaula.

May and Arthur also cared for their daughter Barbara and son-in-law, Leon Goulds' three children, Sandy (Gould) Coit, of Clinton, Marty Gould, of Mineola, Texas, and Michael Gould, of Irvin, CA.

She also had 21 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
