Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 3, 2009 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, St. Cloud, for Paul Joseph Botz, who died on Wednesday at St. Benedict's in St. Cloud. Friends and relatives may call from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, August 2nd at the Williams Dingmann Family Funeral Home in St. Cloud and also after 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the church in St. Cloud. Reverend Aaron Kuhn will officiate. Burial will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
Paul was born to the late George and Martha (Maehren) Botz in St. Cloud. He married Kathleen Pallansch in Richmond, Minnesota on October 4, 1950. Paul lived in St. Cloud all his married life.
He worked as a Correctional Officer at the St. Cloud Reformatory from 1955 until his retirement in 1984. Paul was a member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church, a charter member of Knights of Columbus Bishop Zardetti Council, VFW Post 428 and American Legion Post 76.
He enjoyed vegetable gardening, playing cards, cribbage, and he was also a "fixer upper" and sports enthusiast.
Paul is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, Karen Rothanburg of St. Cloud, Michael Botz (Linda) of Sauk Rapids, David Botz (Karen) of Sartell, Nancy Karnik (Kenneth) of Sauk Rapids, Patrick Botz of St. Cloud and Paul Botz, Jr. (Diana) of Colorado Springs, CO; sister, Virginia Thayer of FL; grandchildren, Kenneth Rothanburg (Jocelyn), Tiffany Karnik, Heidi Karnik, and Heather Botz; great grandson, Paul J. Rothanburg; nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother, John Botz and an infant brother.
Memorials are preferred to the Poor Clare's Monastery in Sauk Rapids.
