Born May 9, 1925, in Windsor, she was a daughter of the late L. Clayton and Sarah (Conrad) Smeltzer.
She was a 1943 graduate of Red Lion High School and a 1946 graduate of York Hospital School of Nursing. She retired in 1987 from York Hospital as a registered nurse, and had previously worked as a school nurse for Red Lion School District.
Mrs. Darone was a member of Hayshire United Church of Christ, York Hospital Alumni Association, York Hospital Auxiliary, Leo Lions Club, York Hospital Zipper Club, Golden Nuggets, and the West Manchester Mall Walkers.
She was the wife of Kenneth E. Darone and, in addition to him, Mrs. Darone is survived by a daughter, Debra D. Coho and husband, Donald of York; and a niece, Rosanne Fowler of Aurora, CO.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ellen Plaski.
