Josephine Guercio Serio died Aug. 21, 2004. Born Sept. 29, 1919, in Hattiesburg, Miss., she lived most of her life in Natchez, Miss., and had been a resident of the Mississippi Gulf Coast for eight years.
Mrs. Serio was a graduate of Cathedral School in Natchez and attended Urseline College in New Orleans, La. She was the former owner of the Italian Kitchen and Crossroads Grocery in Natchez. She was a member of the St. Mary's Basilica. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Gattis Cowley, and S. Frank Serio; her parents, Angela and Salvatore Guercio; her brothers, Thomas, Guercio, Joe Guercio, Jake Guercio; her sister, Elizabeth Guercio; and her son, Charles Gattis Cowley.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Allen and Paulette Hoggatt of Gautier; grandchildren, Allison Hoggatt, Matthew Hoggatt, Tiffany Easley; and her sister, Rose Guercio Cozzani of Vicksburg, Miss.
Private graveside services are at Natchez City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorial contributions to "The Guercio Family Scholarship Fund" for the Cathedral School, c/o The Catholic Foundation, P. O. Box 2248, Jackson, Miss. 39225-2248.
