Aja L. Gerrity, of Ridgefield, Washington died from injuries sustained in a car accident on State Highway 30, just west of Clatskanie. The driver of the car, she was 17 years old. Three of her Ridgefield High School classmates, Amanda Williams, Jason Carter and Richard Araiza, also died in the crash.
Amanda Williams and Aja Gerrity had been best friends since they were in middle school together. They were June 2009 graduates of Ridgefield High School.
During her high school junior year, Aja (pronounced like Asia) went from being a cheerleader captain to being a member of the debate team. For this transformation, Aja Gerrity was chronicled in the MTV reality series "Made." She wrote an essay about this experience for the National Forensic League.
Gerrity played lead roles in the high school's drama productions. She was described as one who threw herself into everything from cheerleading to the debate team. Aja Gerrity was planning to attend a performing arts college in New York City in the fall. She wanted to be an actress.

Aja was born on November 23, 1991 in Vancouver WA and passed away on August 10. Aja graduated in June from Ridgefield High School, where she was the captain of the cheerleading team, a member of the speech and debate team, and sang in the jazz and concert choirs. Aja was in many musical productions including, Into the Woods, Fantastics, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. Her life dream was to perform on Broadway as Ariel in the Little Mermaid.
Aja wanted to be known as more than just a cheerleader, so when MTV's Made came to Ridgefield to hold auditions, she naturally caught their attention and they gave her the new episode. In her own words, she "wanted to be taken seriously and be made into a fast talking and smart member of the speech and debate team."
Look out New York! Aja was headed to Manhattan's Upper West Side this autumn to study drama and music at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy.
Everyone knew Aja for her infectious laugh and radiant smile. She was a breath of fresh air and lit up every room she walked into. Her outward beauty was only paralleled by her inward spirit. She had an openness to everyone and didn't fail to express her opinions. Aja was determined and persistent in her pursuits and had unwavering spirit to succeed.
Aja lived life fully, without regrets, for the aspirations of becoming a better friend and performer.
Aja is survived by her mother and step-father Teresa and Jeff Yohe; her father, Jamison Gerrity; her brothers, Mike, Patrick, and David Anthony; and her sister Liz Anthony.
