He was reinterred from the Congressional Cemetery in July of 1878. Also with him in ANC are his grandson, Montgomery Cunningham Meigs #2287 and son Samuel William Meigs,#2814621 along with several other grandchildren and great grancchildren.
Josiah was a lawyer, taught school and was a tutor at Yale, where he graduated in 1778. He was an instructor and President of the University of Georgia. He was in charge of the General Land Office and then appointed Surveyor General by President James Madison.
Josiah married Clara, daughter of Colonel John Benjamin of Stratford, Connecticut, on January 21, 1782. She died on August 13, 1849, and is buried in Columbia, Georgia.
