Bessie Moothart died Friday, November 4, 2005, at Valley Care Center, Okanogan, WA at the age of 94. She was born September 9, 1911, in Egeland, ND to Thomas and Flossie (Newcommer) Barnhart. Her mother died when she was seven years old and the family moved to Wenatchee where she grew up and attended school. She married Harvey E. Moothart
in East Wenatchee on April 17, 1929. They lived in Cashmere, Dryden, and then moved to Tonasket in February 1945, after purchasing an apple orchard that they operated for many years. Upon their retirement in 1976, they moved to Okanogan to be closer to their daughter. In 1998, Bessie moved to Apple Springs Assisted Living and remained there until her recent illness. Bessie was a member of the
Ellisforde Church of the Brethren where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was a full-time housewife and mother to Jean and Jack, and loving grandmother to her grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Jean (Garnel) Smallwood of Okanogan; son, Jack (Barbara) Moothart of San Antonio, Texas; as well as 5 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brothers, Ralph, Harold and Ramon Barnhart;
sister, Marie Williams; and grandson, Thomas Smallwood.
Funeral Services for Bessie Moothart will be held Wednesday, November 9, 2005, at the Precht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel in Okanogan at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be held at the Okanogan Valley Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Ellisforde Church of the Brethren or the
First Baptist Church of Okanogan. Arrangements are by
Pecht-Harrison-Nearents Chapel, Okanogan.
