Lewis Warner, a son of Thomas and Elizabeth Bibler Warner, was born and farmed in Fairfield County, Ohio. According to a family history,* he worked on the construction of the Ohio and Erie Canal, and after its completion (in 1832) he purchased a boat and operated on the canal and beyond, traveling as far as Natchez, Mississippi.

Lewis Warner and Mary "Polly" Dellinger were married on 5 March 1832 in Fairfield County.

Lewis Warner was enumerated in the 1840 U.S. Census in Fairfield County's Perry Township, and in 1850 in the county's Walnut Township. Along with his family, he moved to Illinois in the middle 1850s.

Lewis Warner was enumerated in the 1860 through 1880 U.S. Censuses (and the 1865 state census) in East Bend Township, Champaign County, Illinois, where he purchased the farm that had belonged to Harmon Hillsberry. He reportedly returned late in life to Fairfield County, Ohio, and died in the county's Walnut Township.

While Lewis Warner has a veteran's memorial, and is listed in Card Records of Headstones Provided for Deceased Union Civil War Veterans, details of his military service are not known. ****UPDATE: Sgt. Lewis Warner served in Co. B, 4th Ohio Cavalry and served in Co. E, 16th Ohio Infantry during the Civil War.
