James H. Dennison was a resident of Ganeer, Kanakakee Co., IL when he mustered with Co. K, 113 IL Vol. Infantry on 01 Oct 1862. He was captured on 11 Jun 1864, the day following the Battle of Brices Cross Roads (AKA Guntown). He was held at several Confederate prison camps including Andersonville. He survived this ordeal and eventually returned to his regiment, where he mustered out of service on 20 Jun 1865.
His diary, kept during his captivity, was published in 1987.
