Laurie graduated from Merrillville High School in 1972 and then Wright Beauty Academy. For 34 years she was employed by Harper Creek Schools as a bus driver for special needs students. She married William Boyd on June 11, 1985, they divorced and were just recently dating each other again. Laurie enjoyed camping, crocheting, genealogy, her chat rooms, and her cats. She had a special place in her heart for special needs children.
Laurie is survived by a daughter, Amanda (Chris) Hartman, of Springfield; her mother, Mary Lockhart, of Merrillville, IN; a grandson, Allen Hartman; brothers, Stephen (Kathy) Galovic, and David Galovic, both of Merrillville, IN; sisters, Merry-Jeanne (Jim) Knotts, of Valparaiso, IN; and Shelley Peters, of Merrillville, IN; ex-husband William Boyd, of Battle Creek, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father Bill Lockhart.
Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be given to Humane Society of South Central Michigan or Muscular Dystrophy Association.
