George Worley Barton, prominent citizen and business man of Winnfield died at his home here June 15 [sic 16], 1929, after an illness of several months.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the Methodist Church by Dr. C. C. Wier.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Barton, was born near Atlanta June 22, 1891 [sic 1892], being at the time of his death 38 years of age.
For several years, Mr. Barton has owned and operated the Barton's Barber Shop and prior to that was employed by the City Barber Shop.
On April 4, 1921 he was united in marriage to Miss Valda [sic Velda] Hinton of Ruston, and to this union two sons were born, Hal and Hugh Barton.
Immediate relatives surviving the deceased are his wife and two sons, Mrs. G. W. Barton, Hal and Hugh Barton of Winnfield; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. F. Barton of Route 1; two brothers, Erb Barton of Sardis and Charlie Barton of Selma Camp; four sisters, Mrs. Bill Collins of Atlanta; Mrs. Jim Collins of Macedonia; Mrs. George Tidwell of Atlanta; Mrs. Warren Ray of Winnfield; and a host of other relatives.
The deceased was a member of the Masonic fraternity, the Knights Templar, and was a consistent member of the Methodist Church, having served that institution as a steward for a number of years.
His life as a Christian and citizen endeared him to the host of people who knew him and he will be greatly missed in the various spheres where he served so well.
