Elsie Benita (Garlick) Cummings Albro of Onset died surrounded by her loving family Monday July 11, at Tobey Hospital in Wareham.

Born September 13, 1922, 14 Kenwood St. in Providence, RI.
She was the daughter of the late Raymond A. and Hazel B. (Gates) Garlick.

She graduated from Cranston High in 1940. Attended Graceland College in Lamoni, IA and graduated from Rhode Island College of Education in 1944.

Married Berton C. Cummings on 2/14/1948 and resided in Foxborough, MA for over 40 years, and raised 7 children there. Her husband Bert preceded her in death on 11/30/1981.
She married Donald B. Albro on July 4, 1991 and resided in Nauvoo, IL for 9 years before retiring to Onset, MA in 2000.

After graduating from RICE, Elsie did her student teaching and accepted a position as an elementary school teacher in Cranston, RI prior to her marriage. She also tutored for many years through the Foxborough Public Schools. She was a member of both the Foxborough and Sharon Fire Departments Women's Auxiliaries. She was a former Girl Scout leader in Foxborough. She was active in the Community of Christ Church all her life, where she served as an Elder and was recently a member of the Pastorate Team of the Onset Congregation. Some of her many responsibilities over the years included: Sunday School Teacher, Christian Education Director and Summer Children's Program Director for the Southern New England District. While living in Nauvoo, Elsie worked at the historic Red Brick Store (a reconstruction of an 1843 General Store). She enjoyed oil painting, arts & crafts, crocheting. She was active in the Onset Creative Arts Association, as a board member, teacher, participant and volunteer.

Elsie adored each member of her large family. She crocheted baby blankets for many. She traveled around the country visiting friends and family.

Elsie was the devoted mother of Capt. Berton C. Cummings Jr., Foxborough Fire Dept. (retired) and his wife Wendy, Fire fighter Merlyn L. Cummings and his companion Dorothy Palm, Fire fighter Alan R. Cummings and his wife Patricia, JoEllen McNamara and her husband Foxborough Fire Chief Gerald F. McNamara, all of Foxborough, Sharon Deputy Fire Chief Steven O. Cummings and his wife Sandra of Mansfield, Judy L. Cummings and her husband Robert Boomhower of Foxborough, and Peter A. Cummings and his companion Eric Allen of East Providence. She was also a loving mother of Don's three children; Douglas C. Albro and his wife Diane of KS, Candace L. Albro Grey and her husband Kent of IA and Jeffery R. Albro and his wife Jill of TN. Sister of Leonard D. Garlick and his wife Ellen of MO. Former mother-in-law of Katherine Cummings of Foxborough, Patricia Cummings of FL and Sandra J. Albro of CO. Also survived by 26 Grandchildren and 11 Great Grandchildren. Preceded in death by her step-son Robert A. Cummings.
