COALVILLE - James Emerson Staples, 91, our Dad, Grandfather, and Great Grandfather, passed away Wed., July 3, 2002 of natural causes.

He was born February 9, 1911 in Coalville, to Bertha Ann Wright and John W. Staples.He married Florence M Butler June 30, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.She passed away April 26, 1978.He has been active in the LDS Church all his life and has served in various positions including: Bishop of Cluff Ward and Upton, Summit Stake High Council, Assistant Clerk of Coalville Utah Stake, Sunday School teacher and home teacher.He was a Scout Master, Stake Cub Master and he was awarded the Silver Beaver award for outstanding service in scouting on Feb 14, 1956.

Emerson owned and operated a small dairy farm.He loved animals, outdoors, and jersey cows.He was appointed deputy County Treasurer, and was elected Summit County Clerk.In 1959, he was awarded the Mark Tuttle award for the outstanding county official in the State of Utah.He worked at the Hi-Land Dairy, as a field clerk for UDOT, and clerk-treasurer of the North Summit School District.He held numerous community positions such as secretary for several ditch companies, and the North Summit Fire Department.He retired Nov. 30, 1976.

He is survived by his children: four sons and three daughters: David (Luci) of the Wellington New Zealand Mission; Clint (Holly) of Coalville; Vaughn (Nelda) of Coalville; Rick (Melinda) of Marysville, California; LaNae (Everett) Ovard of Henefer; Marilyn (Virgil) Matthews of Sandy; and Elaine (Joseph) Tatton of Marion.
