Services were held Wednesday afternoon in First Christian Church for Jimmy Cummings, who died suddenly at his home Monday afternoon, July 5. The Rev. John S. Bell officiated and burial was in Maple Cemetery with H.S. Smith Funeral Home service.
He was born in Caruthersville March 6, 1933, the son of Hershel and Ora Cummings, and was 38 years old. He was graduated from the local high school in 1951 and from Arkansa State College, Jonesboro, in 1956.
On October 13, 1956, he enlisted in the United States Army, after having served in the Caruthersville National Guard for several years, and was discharged from the service at Fort Riley, Kans., April 12, 1957, with the rank of Captain. On February 26, 1963, at Hayti, he was married to Miss Patricia Mangrum.
For a time he was in the insurance business and later was an employe of the Missouri State Welfare Department. Still later he became a distributor of sports goods and was sponsor of one of the local soft ball teams, the "Go-Devils."
