SPANISH AMERICAN WAR VETERAN

William Evans was born June 9, 1871 in Illinois. He was the son of James and Mary (Smith) Evans. He was five foot five inches tall with a light complexion.

MILITARY RECORD:
Enlisted April 27, 1898 in Tecumpseh, Nebraska. Served in Company "I", 2nd Nebraska Infantry. Discharged with the rank of Corporal on October 24, 1998 in Omaha, Nebraska.

He was married on April 20, 1899 in Johnson, Nebraska to Ida Bastian. They had a son, Lewis Evans.

In March 1931, at the age of 59 years and a resident of Whitman County, Washington, he applied for admission to the Washington Veterans' Home.

Mr. Evans died November 4, 1941 and is buried in the Veterans' Home Cemetery.
