Dalton D. "Deb" Farester, 79, of West Kittanning, died Friday, Aug. 5, 2005 at UPMC, Pittsburgh. He was born July 13, 1926 in Kittanning to Dalton J. and Myrtle (Myers) Farester. Mr. Farester retired from the former PPG industries plant in Ford City after 33 years of service, where he worked as a crane man and truck driver. He was a World War II Naval veteran, serving in the Pacific Theatre. He was a helmsman attached to the Fifth Fleet and Task Force 58. He received several service accommodations including two Bronze stars and a Philippine Liberation Medal. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Kittanning. He was also a charter member of the Small Boats Survivor's Club as well as a charter and lifetime member of the East Franklin Township Fire Department. His hobbies included hunting, camping and woodworking. Survivors include his wife, Lois (Kline) Farester, to whom he was married for 57 years; one son, Terry L. Farester of Dallas, Texas; one daughter, Debe Stewart of Kittanning; and three grandsons, Sean Farester and wife Heather of Washington, D.C., Benton Farester and wife Laura, and Trevor Farester of, all of Dallas, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Peary Farester and Donald Farester; and one sister, Lucille Anthony. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Kennedy and Blodgett Funeral Home, Inc., 253 North Grant Ave., Kittanning, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, with his pastor, the Rev. Carl Johnson, officiating. Burial will be in the Ford City Cemetery, Ford City.
