Harold Eugene Glass, age 88, of Greensboro, GA, died Thursday, April 16, 2009 at Saint Joseph''s at East Georgia Hospital in Greensboro. Born in Walton County on March 1, 1921, he was the son of the late Haynie Milton Glass and Alma Evans Glass. He graduated from Greensboro High School, where he excelled in football and basketball. In 1942 he joined the United States Navy and served during World War II on the USS Denver CL58 in the Pacific Theater. On September 11, 1947, he married the former Lucretia McGibony of Greensboro, GA. In his early years, he did dairy farming and worked for Caldwell Laundry. In 1959 he began working for Gehl Company as a sales representative and retired in 1989 after thirty years of service. He travelled extensively over five states, Alabama, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia, selling farm equipment. Harold was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro, where he served as Chairman of the Property Committee for a number of years and was a member and past president of Hamp''s Sunday School Class. He was a member of VFW Post 4259 and was presently serving as quartermaster. Harold, along with many friends, was a founding parent of Nathanael Greene Academy.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Lucretia McGibony Glass of Greensboro, GA; four daughters, Allison G. Duvall and husband Rev. Terry Duvall of Gaffney, SC, Leslie G. Powell and husband Cecil of Greensboro, GA, Rainee G. Clary and husband Andy of Gaffney, SC and Tracey Glass of Social Circle, GA; a son, Rev. Paul Glass and wife Nancy of Hampton, GA; a sister, Sara Nell King of Brookhaven, GA; twelve grandchildren, Matthew Glass, Stuart Glass, Abi Glass, Kristin Duvall Parker, Jonathan Duvall, Brian Powell, Jason Powell, Curt Powell, Drew Clary, Zach Clary, Carolyn Fuchs and Evan Fuchs; two great grandchildren, Allie Parker and Elizabeth Parker; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Lawrence, Royce, W. J., Leon, Heyward and Julian Glass.
Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Greensboro City Cemetery with Rev. Terry Duvall and Rev. Michael Hardy officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons: Brian Powell, Jason Powell, Curt Powell, Stuart Glass, Matt Glass, Jonathan Duvall, Drew Clary, Zach Clary and Evan Fuchs. The family will receive friends after the service at the graveside. The family requests that any memorials be made to The First Baptist Church of Greensboro Building Fund, 203 S.
