The "Centennial History, Deepwater, Missouri, 1885-1895" adds that Robert "fought in the Civil War, was a charter member of the Park Grove Christian Church (founded in 1866) and he homesteaded 80 acres east of Deepwater, near where the brick factory later was built."

Son Henry's obituary list his fathers middle name as Lawrence.
