Thomas is my great-grandfather. He was born in either Ste. Genevieve County or in Madison County, Missouri. He claimed both on various documents. He was the son of William Rice of North Carolina and Nancy Jane Storey who were married in 1840 in Alexander County, Illinois. About 1849 William deserted his family, returned to Illinois and married a second time.
Thomas enlisted Co I, 47th Missouri Infantry on 23 August 1864 at Fredericktown.
Thomas was first married to Margaret Brendel, who died in 1878.

I choose not to display his death certificate because it incorrectly identifies his father.
