PORTAL, Ga. - Mrs. Ellen Mays Brown, age 89, died Friday morning at the Elberta Healthcare Center in Warner Robins, Ga. Mrs. Brown was born November 28, 1919, in Savannah, Ga., to the late William Porter Mays and Edith Van Syckle Mays.

Mrs. Brown married Ruford Brown in 1942 and they resided in Miami, Fla., for several years until moving to Bulloch County in 1947 to begin their life on the family farm. She remained in the Portal Community until moving to Warner Robins in 2005. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Brown was the oldest living member of the Poplar Springs Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth and Chris Rankine of Arlington, Texas; a son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Carol Brown of Warner Robins, Ga.; three grandchildren, Lee (Heather) Brown of Statesboro, David (Mary) Brown of Macon and Christopher Rankine III of Atlanta; and five great-grandchildren, Mason Brown, Myles Brown, Madeline Brown, MaKayla Brown and MaKenna Brown.

Visitation will be Sunday from 4-6 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Portal, Ga., with the Rev. Ben Gay officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Poplar Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 2979 Poplar Springs Church Road, Portal, Ga. 30450.
