MOUNT HOLLY - Mary Ruth Hallman Abernethy, 89, of 1421 Old Hickory Grove Road, died March 18, 2009, at her home.
She was born June 25, 1919, in McAdenville, daughter of the late William Otis and Cora Poole Hallman.
She was preceded in death by her husband Forrest Hall "Red" Abernethy, a son Charles Edward "Bud" Abernethy, 4 brothers Fred, Grayson, Gaither, and Clyde Hallman, 4 sisters Maude Rhyne, Mabel Pryor, Ailene and Martha Hallman.
Survivors include 3 daughters Gloria Bagnall and her husband Bill of Brandon, Mississippi, Margaret Abernethy and Joan Abernethy both of Mount Holly. 1 sister Willie Hollar of Mount Holly. 2 granddaughters Julie Thibodeaux and her husband Dalton of Brandon, Mississippi and Jaime Bagnall of Brandon, Mississippi. 1 grandson Chuck Abernethy of Clearwater, Florida. 2 great grandsons Hunter Thibodeaux of Brandon, Mississippi and Shawn Abernethy of Clearwater, Florida. Daughter in law JoAnn Abernethy "wife of the late Charles "Bud" Abernethy" of Columbia, SC.
She was retired from Gaston County Schools. She was a loving and caring, Wife, Mother, Sister, and Grandmother.
Funeral Service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday March 22, 2009 at the Woodlawn Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Bill Hallman officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7- 9 Saturday at the funeral home.
