Dewey E. Fagerlind, 53, of 506 California Street, died of a heart attack at Allen Memorial Hospital Wednesday at 5 a.m. He was stricken while at work as a mechanic at the Waterloo John Deere Tractor works about an hour before.
He was born July 26, 1898, at Downsville, Wisconsin, the son of Charles and Matilda Fagerlind, and came to Waterloo in 1910.From 1919 to 1934 he was a pitcher for a semi-professional baseball clubs including the Waterloo Cardinals and clubs at Jessup, Denver, Garrison, Dysart and Eldora.
On December 17, 1921 he married Rose Wilson in Waterloo. He was a veteran of World War I and was a charter member of Waterloo's Sports of Sorts Club.
Survivors include his wife, three sons, Edward at home, Paul of 821 ½ Logan Avenue and Merle of 303 Edwards Street, four daughters Dolores, Mary, Patricia and Judy all at home, three brothers, Melvin of 237 Mohawk Street, Carl of 1636 Kern Street and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, two brothers and a sister.
The body is at Parrot & Wood Funeral Home where funeral services tentatively have been set for Saturday afternoon.
