Teresa McVeigh/Soheyr Azar's Notes: George W Sports was the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Sport(s). I have considerable information on him. He was born about 1838 in South Carolina, probably in Marlboro County. He served in the Confederacy as a sharpshooter. He is listed on the 1870 Census with wife Sarah and on the 1880 Census with wife Elizabeth. He collapsed and died on the street in Orangeburg, SC.
The State (newspaper), Columbia, SC, 6 Feb. 1899 - Special to The State - Orangeburg, Feb. 4--Mr. George Sports of the Limestone section of the county died very suddenly here today on the streets, being stricken while attending to business. He was about 60 years of age, but was in fairly good health, leaving his home this morning without any feeling to indicate the fearful and fatal attack which overcame him.
An inquest was at once held, and a verdict of death from natural causes rendered, after which his remains were taken in charge by friends.
