He was in fact a POW at Camp Harrison in Terre Haute on the banks of the Wabash River. This from the Terre Haute Tribune Star, June 5, 2011:On March 18, 1862, Private George N. Zollicoffer of Gantt’s Company B died of typhoid. George had been living and farming with his older brother John in Maury Co., Tennessee, in 1860. His muster rolls show that he enlisted on Nov. 28, 1861, in Maury County, and was never paid for his services in the war. He was age 35 at the time of his death, and was interred in Division 37, Block 1, Lot 18. However, a story about his exhumation ran in the Oct. 25, 1925, Terre Haute Tribune. Isaac Ball, a funeral director at the time, recounted a story of Zollicoffer’s relative coming to Terre Haute to have the body exhumed and taken back for re-burial in his home state. Ball says this definitely happened, but the records (perhaps incomplete) at Woodlawn Cemetery do not reflect this. Therefore, there is a question as to whether Zollicoffer is still buried in Woodlawn, but he is most likely back in Tennessee.

a Find A Grave volunteer has reported a problem with your photo request for George Zollicoffer. The general problem they reported is:Cemetery office confirmed that this burial is unmarkedThey also reported, specifically:According to Woodlawn Cemetery records "the individual graves [of the Confederate prisoners] cannot now be identified." The only marker they have, is the memorial.
